Biography

Camilo José Cela Trulock was born in the Galician village of Iria Flavia in Padrón, on May 11th, 1916. In 1942, he started his literary career by publishing his first novel La familia de Pascual Duarte (‘The Family of Pascual Duarte’). Later on, he published another thirteen novels until Madera de boj (‘Boxwood’, 1999). After La familia de Pascual Duarte, his work La colmena (‘The Hive’) stands out, published in 1951 in Buenos Aires due to censorship.

Mainly a literary vocation

To preserve and disseminate CJC’s literary work; to become a meeting place for young writers; to promote all kinds of initiatives aimed at improving the social reputation of writers; to spark discussions about the role of literature; to serve as way to make known the creative work of authors that write in our local languages.

Mission and goals

The mission of the Foundation is to promote the study of Camilo José Cela’s work and preserve his cultural, human and even anecdotal legacy by endeavouring to disseminate general knowledge of said work and legacy as well as many activities directed for cultural promotion.

To reach theses  goals, the Foundation:

Will preserve CJC’s legacy, promoting its knowledge, study and dissemination thereof. Will develop its activities mainly in the territory of the autonomous community of Galicia.…
